I've been coming for years and the food and service has always been top knotch. I love it for being a small family run Japanese restaurant with actual Japanese sushi chefs. Sure, it's no Tojo's Sushi for the stars but its comfort food that's reasonably priced. Sorry, you won't find $15 maki rolls here. When you get the bill, you'll feel inclined to treat your dinner companions. Yam tempura, beef tataki, & beef udon is always our favorites.
Not great...the combo is too small for the price...tho the Ten udon is probably the only thing I'd order that is good.
I have to agree with the second comment. My sushi was sitting on the counter for more than 30 min. before it was served to me. Sometimes they are good but not always.
Been eating here several times a year for over 10 years.... uh, guess I like it? Sachimi execellent everytime always cold never frozen, Halibut cheeks great, Uni when available great, Deep fried Calamari is dynamite, Spinach Gomi fantastic, Shiitaki mushroom incredible, on and on... but please don't tell your friends about this place okay?
I am baffled by these other reviews, my wife and I just got back from Isami and not only was the sushi bad it also took 3.5 hours! The staff appeared to be moving through molasses the entire night, everyone moving in extreme slow motion. Because we could see the sushi masters at work it was clear that one of our plates of sushi was being prepared for over an hour. The thimble sized pieces of maki were mushy, tasteless and the rice was still warm. The nigiri pieces were mangled and of extremely poor quality, covered in bits of silverskin and very unevenly coloured. The tobiko was an orange mush and the salmon roe was very funky. On the positive the tempura was edible. Anyone who thinks this is good sushi really needs to broaden their horizons past Burnaby.
I love this restaurant honestly their sashimi and tataki are to die for, they practically melt in ur mouth and honestly everything on the menu is delicious! I still have yet to try everything! this place is WORTH it!
